Critical Mass Circles the City

This month’s Critical Mass ride rolled through on a fine July evening. Not too hot, not too cold – perfect weather for the theme – the Underwear Mass. July’s theme was not just a raunchy rebel biker’s theme as I can only assume someone like Mark Konkol of the Sun Times would write if he were covering the event (see his latest bellowing rage against Chicago bikers here) but rather a peaceful ride in support of positive body image and gender equality. A portion of the ride’s after-party profit was donated to support Slutwalk Chicago.

And it was fun! Always so liberating to be able to ride on the streets with a safety web of other riders all around.  The chosen route was by far the best I have participated in. We cruised into Pilsen just as the sun was slanting into its daily descent – draping the gothic churches and the residents waving from the sidewalk with subtle rays.
